More COVID-19 outbreaks at B.C. health-care facilities as visitor restrictions take effect

 



The Omicron-variation fuelled fifth flood of COVID-19 has begun 2022 the same way it finished 2021: with a developing number of episodes at medical services offices in B.C.


Vancouver Coastal Health declared two new episodes on New Year's Day and given extra subtleties on a third that had been unveiled on New Year's Eve.


The two new episodes are at Lakeview Long Term Care Home in Vancouver and the Joseph and Rosalie Segal and Family Health Center at Vancouver General Hospital.


Ten occupants at Lakeview's "2 South" unit have tried positive for the Covid, as have two inhabitants on the fifth floor of Segal focus, as indicated by the wellbeing authority.


Also, four inhabitants on the second floor of Kopernik Lodge in Vancouver have tried positive, as per Vancouver Coastal Health.


The Kopernik Lodge episode was incorporated among the 15 dynamic COVID-19 flare-ups recorded in the commonplace government's last pandemic update of 2021 on Friday. The Lakeview and Segal focus episodes were not. Nor was a flare-up at general medication unit 4B at Victoria General Hospital, which Island Health declared late Friday night.


The most recent flare-up statements mean there are no less than 18 continuous episodes in medical care offices around the territory.


As of late as Dec. 24, there were only two dynamic episodes in B.C.


The new flood in diseases among long haul care occupants incited common wellbeing official Dr. Bonnie Henry to reintroduce guest restrictions at such offices until at minimum Jan. 18.


"We want to diminish the quantities of individuals coming into our drawn out care homes so we can best secure the seniors and older folks ... what's more guarantee that specialists in those settings can oversee and adapt," Henry said while reporting the new guidelines on Friday.


Vancouver Coastal Health said it has suspended gathering exercises and stopped appearance at both Kopernik and Lakeview.


The fifth floor of the Segal community has been shut to new affirmations and moves, and all trivial visits have been suspended, the wellbeing authority said, adding that it has carried out "severe contamination avoidance and control conventions" at every one of the three areas.
